The "Incentive and support for publication" programme

This programme aims to improve the quality and international visibility of development economics research by French or French-speaking nationals, while at the same time promoting the implementation of this research as a tool for strengthening institutions.

The programme has two components:

►The “Incentive for advanced research in development” project (IRAD)
►Support for the Revue d’Économie du Développement

The “Incentive for advanced research in development” project

The IRAD project aims to facilitate publication in the best international journals of development research conducted by researchers from France or French-speaking countries, by steering top researchers towards important development issues and encouraging those who are interested in these issues to write up their scientific work for publication in the best journals, and to do so in such a way as to help increase the Ferdi’s institutional impact. Aid will be granted on acceptance of a paper in a scientific journal, according to the journal’s rating, subject to prior agreement between the author and the Ferdi concerning the relevance of the topic for development.

The conditions of qualification for aid will be as follows:

►Author: any researcher in a research group or centre that has signed an agreement to this end with the Ferdi with the aim of strengthening institutional outreach;

►Topic: any topic linked to development issues that is relevant to development policy. The relevance of the topic will be appraised by an ad hoc committee at the Ferdi appointed by the Chair, and will include three expert authorities in development economics.

The author of the paper will be asked to give the Ferdi a brief presentation, stating the utility of the topic for development policy, the method used, the expected results and the work timeline, and will naturally undertake to acknowledge the Ferdi’s support on publication.

Aid will be granted according to the journal’s rating as assessed by the CNRS, with the possibility of marginal adaptation by the ad hoc committee, and using a top-heavy ranking scale to favour only the very best journals.

This project should be set in place in 2010, subject to approval and a budget allowance from the Governing Board.

Support for the Revue d’Économie du Développement(top)

Right from its beginnings, the Ferdi has lent its support to the Revue d’Économie du Développement, the main French-language journal for the economic analysis of development issues. Although the journal’s secretariat is provided by the CERDI, it is not CERDI’s house journal and does not owe its reputation to any affiliation with the CERDI. It is rated by the CNRS and has been published quarterly since 2002 by Éditions de Boeck. Originally, from its launch in 1993 until 2001, it was published by Presses Universitaires de France.

RED.gifThe journal is to be given new impetus to enhance its appeal and extend its circulation. From 2010, the journal will be published simultaneously in French in its original paper version, and in English in electronic form (“Review on the Economics of Development”, with the same acronym RED). In addition, special issues will be published following on from meetings or special seminars on specific topics.
