Addressing Vulnerabilities to promote Peace and Development

February 06, 2014, New-York

An event on Vulnerabilities and Peace and Security Issues in the fringe of the Eighth session of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (3-7 Feb).

Ferdi and French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Club de Madrid, Worldvision and the Institute for Economics and Peace organize a side-event on Vulnerabilities and Peace and Security Issues in the fringe of the Eighth session of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (3-7 Feb).

During the Eighth session of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (3-7 Feb), participating states will discuss the significance of "conflict prevention, post-conflict peacebuilding and the promotion of durable peace, rule of law and governance" in the world’s future development goals.

To contribute to this discussion, this side event brings together civil society experts and former state representatives to share experiences of addressing economic, climactic, and social vulnerabilities as a vital step in securing sustainable development. The session aims to provide evidence on how preventive measures can offset the risks brought about by recurring violence, social exclusion, unequal distribution of resources, climatic change and economic shocks. Speakers will reference experiences from Latin America and Africa.
